UToledo police search for pro-Palestinian vandal who damaged sidewalk, statues

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – UToledo police are investigating graffiti on campus shortly after the anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel in a case of criminal vandalism and ethnic intimidation.

Between 12:54 a.m. and 1:01 a.m. on Oct. 8, the department said a single suspect defaced the school’s new mascot statues and spray-painted red pro-Palestinian protest slogans on sidewalks. from Centennial Shopping Center.

They are asking anyone with information to contact UToledo police.

UToledo administrators issued a statement condemning the incident, saying “these hateful actions do not reflect the values ​​of our university community.”

Early yesterday morning, graffiti and vandalism was discovered at the Centennial Mall. This criminal act is unacceptable, does not represent the values ​​of our university community and will not be tolerated.

We immediately began efforts to remove the harmful graffiti, but due to the nature of the damage, this work is continuing.

At UToledo we support freedom of expression. We do not tolerate criminal damage or threats of violence.

UToledo Police are investigating this incident as misdemeanor vandalism and ethnic intimidation. If you have any information about this incident, report it to campus police immediately. We will seek to hold the person(s) accountable both through the criminal prosecution process as well as the Student Code of Conduct or Standards of Conduct process if they are a UToledo student or employee.
