Tempe Democratic office shot a third time by fearful cowards

Behind the hatred and attempts at intimidation inherent in the shootings lies an underlying fear. Will Donald Trump lose?

In the crowded, territorial steel mill neighborhood where I grew up, we learned as children that sometimes bullying is fear in disguise.

The bully is a fake, not a badass. He is worried. He senses a possible loss.

He may come after you, but not directly, not in a way that would bring you face to face.

I thought about that this week when, for the third time this election season, a Democratic Party office in Tempe was hit by gunfire.

The building was fired at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. Nobody was inside. The office is near the Arizona Mills shopping center.

The Democrats’ office must remain nondescript

Late last month, the day after the second shooting at the office, I heard from a campaign volunteer who works there. She said her colleagues talked about “the what-ifs of all the times they had been in the office overnight.”

This shooting, like the first time, happened after midnight.

Shots fired against the Democratic office: While everyone is yawning

The volunteer told me, “It already seemed so sad that the office had to remain so nondescript, with only a small sign, only displayed at events such as our debate watch party (a wonderful bonding experience.)

“I remember fondly the huge screens we were able to display in campaign offices during the Obama campaigns, and really all the campaigns leading up to this unprecedented violence that Trump and MAGA brought into our national politics.

“It is hoped that this crime will be recognized as a serious and outrageously violent charge of intimidation of federal voters. »

Do suspects fear Trump will lose?

This week it happened again.

Shots were fired in the office between midnight and 1 a.m. No one was injured, but authorities are asking for help searching for what they are calling a “suspicious vehicle.”

Police said the vehicle was “possibly a 2008-2013 silver Toyota Highlander.” The vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, a roof rack and five-spoke rims.

I suppose that behind the hatred and attempts at intimidation inherent in the shootings is an underlying fear.

Will Donald Trump lose? That the bubble will burst on their MAGA fantasy?

Now, on top of that, the thugs have something else to worry about.

Getting caught.
