Fortunately, no one was injured in the explosion. However, the wall of the CRPF school and a car were damaged.

Rohini residents said vibrations from the blast were felt hundreds of meters away. Residents also experienced a “chemical” smell at the site.

Some people thought it was a firecracker. Others thought an LPG cylinder had exploded.

“It wasn’t like a firecracker, the sound was incredibly loud. And for 15 to 20 minutes, there was just smoke everywhere,” said Kiran Sachdeva, a local resident.

Sachdeva, in her 60s, described the explosion as an “earthquake-like” shock and said her house was about 200-250 meters from the site.

Himanshu Kohli, a shopkeeper, said that when he heard the blast, he ran to the scene. He said white smoke filled the air and a strong chemical smell emanated from the site.

“The windows and boards were broken. I got scared and went back to my shop,” Kohli said.

Anita Singh had just returned from the temple when she heard the “very loud explosion”.

“I felt the vibrations in my house. It was like someone’s cylinder exploded nearby. My children’s school bus comes here and usually we stand at this gate (near the school ) in the morning, but since today was Sunday, no one was injured “I shudder to think of the magnitude of the disaster if this had happened during the week,” she said. .

Meanwhile, police believe the blast could have been carried out using a crude bomb. Investigating agencies also found a white powder which was used in preparing the bomb. They said the white powder could be a mixture of ammonium nitrate and chloride.

“There was a foul smell of chemicals after the explosion. Locals and police officers who rushed there also felt the same. Our teams are investigating the entire matter,” said a senior officer of police to PTI.
