Freeport police search for suspect after shooting, 2 teens in custody

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) – Two 17-year-olds are in custody and a suspect is on the run after allegedly firing guns and fleeing police.

Two suspects are identified as 17-year-old Freeport residents and have been charged with firearms offenses.

Just before 10:30 p.m. on October 9, Freeport police responded to a Sound Thinking alert in the 500 block of W. Broadway Street. An officer also claims to have heard gunshots south of the police station.

Police said they saw three suspects wearing dark clothing fleeing near Locust Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard. Officers surrounded the area and said one of the men was seen with a gun.

They caught up with one teen in the 500 block of W. Addison Street and the second teen in the 600 block of W. Stephenson Street. Semi-automatic firearms were also found in both areas.

A third suspect has not been found.

Police say the shooting was not a random act of violence. They are asking anyone with information to call the Freeport Police Department at 815-235-8222.
