The death of Baba Siddique: In the latest development in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, the Mumbai crime branch on Sunday said six bullets were fired at Siddique, of which three hit him, ANI reported. Authorities said the identification of the third suspect has been confirmed and he will be arrested soon.

Earlier reports from hospital doctors said Baba Siddique suffered two gunshot wounds to the chest before being taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai for emergency treatment.

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday announced that Baba Siddique would be cremated with full state honours. The chief minister’s office said Siddique would receive the honor because he was a minister in the Maharashtra government from 2004 to 2008 and was also the chairman of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

  • Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced that five investigation teams have been formed and sent to various states to probe the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.

  • Pawar said the identity of those responsible for the incident is expected to be revealed in 2-3 days. He went to Cooper Hospital, where Baba Siddique’s body was transferred for an autopsy, and met Siddique’s son Zeeshan Siddique.

  • Speaking to the media, Pawar expressed his disbelief over the incident, saying, “He was one of our leaders and worked for years in Mumbai. He was also in Congress and was a three-time MLA. He also worked as a minister. Pawar noted that the police quickly launched their investigation, resulting in the arrest of two people.

  • He confirmed that the Chief Minister, the Home Minister and himself were actively monitoring the situation and believed that details regarding the perpetrator of the murder would be uncovered in the coming days.
