A fire at a gas station in Russian Chechnya killed four people, including two children, emergency services said on Saturday.

Authorities released images of more than two dozen firefighters putting out a fire at a gas station almost completely destroyed by burning cars in Groznyy, Chechnya’s main city.

“Unfortunately, four people died, including two children,” the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said. It was said that the fire had been put out.

Authorities said the gas station was on Mohammad Ali Avenue in Grozny, close to the center of the Chechen capital.

Videos on social media showed a large explosion with flames rising into the air.

Russia’s North Caucasus has recently seen several deadly gas station explosions.

Last month, an explosion at a gas station in the neighboring region of Dagestan killed 13 people. In August 2023, a similar explosion killed 35 people in Dagestan and injured dozens.
