Believe it or not, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is showing signs of life after years of development hell

Beyond Good and Evil 2, Ubisoft’s open-world sci-fi game that has been stuck in a quagmire of development hell for years now, is showing signs of life according to recent reports.

According to a report from Kotaku’s Ethan Gach, signs of life for the game remain at the company despite recent disruptions within the company. Just yesterday, a report suggested that the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team was scattered and displaced around the company. Earlier this month, it was also reported that Tencent was considering acquiring the company as Ubisoft’s shares fell significantly.

According to Kotaku’s report, Beyond Good and Evil 2 recently hit an internal milestone within the company, and the higher-ups seem happy with the game’s progress. Additionally, sources speaking to Kotaku state that the team has finally the feeling that the game has found its footing after years of turbulent development. The game has survived intense staff turnover, the death of its late creative director Emile Morel, and senior executive departures amid reports of company toxicity.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 exploded onto the gaming scene upon its re-reveal in 2017, although it was originally revealed in 2008! Ubisoft even brought in Joseph Gordon Levitt to promote the game, urging fans to submit their own creations that will feature in the game, although Levitt and Ubisoft have remained largely silent on this aspect of the project since then. Over the next few years, there was mostly radio silence in any official capacity, save for statements assuring fans that the game was still in the works.

Here’s hoping we see more of the game in the years to come. It’s easy to joke about the game, especially with years of absence. But with Ubisoft desperately needing a hit and the positive reception to the Beyond Good and Evil 1 remaster, there’s still an appetite for a good new Beyond Good and Evil.

When do you think we’ll see more of Beyond Good and Evil 2? Next year, in five years? Never? Let us know below!
