Unveiling of a literary treasure: the rare typewritten text of “The Little Prince”

A rare typescript of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved short story, “The Little Prince,” will soon be available on the market for a high price of $1.25 million. Described as a “literary treasure” by booksellers, this unique copy contains numerous handwritten corrections by the author himself.

Written during his exile in New York in the midst of World War II, this typewritten text in French is one of only three known to exist. It provides insight into Saint-Exupéry’s creative process and includes what is considered the first appearance of a famous phrase: “It is only with the heart that one can see correctly; the essential is invisible to the eye.

Offering a unique insight into the creation of a classic, the artifact will be on display at Abu Dhabi Art from November 20-24. Bookseller Sammy Jay notes that this is the most exceptional example he has encountered, featuring original sketches and an unrivaled representation of the author’s original vision.
