Saint-Denis (93): The rapid return of the basilica

Saint-Denis (93): The rapid return of the basilica

This is a project that has been on hold for almost 200 years. The reconstruction of the spire of the Basilica of Saint Denis. Work that you will be able to follow with your own eyes over the coming years by discovering the different techniques of the craftsmen.

Just like Notre Dame de Paris, the Basilica of Saint Denis has experienced some disasters throughout history. It was not a fire but tornadoes in the 1840s that destroyed the spire of the necropolis of the kings and queens of France. Since then, the reconstruction project has fallen behind schedule…a lot of delays! So much so that more than 150 years later, the operation was finally launched in Saint Denis.

A construction site like no other that you will be able to discover with your own eyes since a “works base” is set up at the foot of the Basilica. This will be an opportunity for you to watch the master craftsmen at work, and to learn more about the different renovation techniques.
