Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves to Kick Off Volunteer Stewardship Season in Harlem Hills

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) – Illinois is the Prairie State and Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves is launching an event to restore the prairie ecosystem at the Harlem Hills Nature Preserve.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, you can head to Harlem Hills Nature Preserve in Loves Park to volunteer.

This event marks the start of a series of restoration days dedicated to preserving the largest gravel prairie in the Midwest.

Those who attend the event can learn about the prairie ecosystem and take a guided nature hike, in addition to volunteering to help.

Volunteers must wear sturdy shoes and work clothes. Tools, gloves and snacks will also be provided.

On the fourth Sunday of each month, eco-catering days will take place.
