Manchester United target Jamie Leweling has release clause in talks as Stuttgart chief remains coy

Manchester United will consider potential signings for 2025 with a new winger surely on the wishlist at Old Trafford.

Ineos can look forward to its first summer transfer window at Manchester United.

United have invested in the spine of the team with the arrival of centre-backs Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt alongside striker Joshua Zirkzee and midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Full-back Noussair Mazraoui also arrived, but United’s main objective was clearly to develop in the center of the field early on.

This means no wingers have been signed and United could look to bring in a new man at the end of the season.

Manchester United receives encouragement from Jamie Leweling

Antony continues to be linked with a return to Ajax after failing to achieve success during his time at Old Trafford.

This means United are interested in other wingers like Dan Ndoye from Bologna as well as Jamie Leweling from Stuttgart.

Reports earlier in October claimed that United were monitoring Leweling before potentially trying to sign him.

United will now be interested to know that Leweling has a release clause in his contract at Stuttgart.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims Leweling could leave Stuttgart for around €25m (£21m) next summer.

Plettenberg adds that there is already “significant interest” in Leweling and that “the top clubs in England” are very keen.

This would match United’s rumored interest in Leweling and the fee wouldn’t break the bank, amounting to just a quarter of the price paid for Antony in 2022.

Leweling started on the left flank for Stuttgart in a 1-0 win over Juventus on Tuesday night, but can also operate on the right side.

This versatility should appeal to United, who will be looking for cost-effective options to challenge Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad DIallo.

Head of Stuttgart on Leweling

Leweling ticks those boxes and Stuttgart have all but confirmed that such a clause exists in their deal.

Sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has now admitted that Leweling was able to sign a quality player thanks to the offer of a release clause.

Wohlgemuth did not confirm the value of the clause but admits that Stuttgart had to make such deals to improve their squad.

“When it comes to a clause, it’s about the content of a contract,” Wohlgemuth said.

“We do not comment on this publicly. But in principle, we were able to guarantee a quality that we normally would not have been able to afford in various cases. The clauses are also a symptom of the fact that we still have some catching up to do to reach the top clubs in the Bundesliga,” he added.

The door appears to be open for United to swoop in and sign Leweling in 2025, but that may not become a serious prospect until the end of the season.

The clause apparently won’t come into effect until next summer, but if Leweling continues to impress in Germany, United will surely be ready to pounce.
