Like every Tuesday of the week, the students took their evaluations in front of the teaching staff. Masseo chose to perform “Donne-moi le temps” by Jenifer. However, after being interrupted by Sofia Morgavi, he had to sing a nursery rhyme before resuming his performance. At the exit, the youngest of this class of 2024, visibly disappointed, confided to his classmates that he thought he had failed his evaluation. “I messed up.”he repeated constantly, disturbed by this sudden interruption.

This Wednesday, October 23, Masseo took advantage of the singing class to ask his teacher for explanations concerning the incident the day before. “It’s my natural voice, I don’t understand at all,” advances the young singer. “When you’re at prime, you perform! You’re really brilliant and we can hear your tone well. During the evaluations, you sang in a nasal way. Knowing your voice, I asked you to do this exercise so that you can scout on your body“, she explains.

For Sofia Morgavi, the nursery rhyme is a vocalization whose sole purpose is to rediscover the spontaneity of the vocal gesture. “It doesn’t infantilize you. It wasn’t a punishment, it was because there is material to make you work on. We want to take you further! I wanted to release this memory that you are starting to install with this nasal sound“, she assures. “It destabilized me a lot, even for the dance afterwards. I was very unwell”admits Masséo. Cunderstanding, the vocal coach apologizes for this aside : “In this job, you’ll be asked to do things at the last minute. Of course, I didn’t want to destabilize you. Maybe it was awkward of me to ask in the middle of the assessment, but I ‘ve done with other singers too.”
