Suspicious substance found at Kari Lake office on October 22

PHOENIX — Reports of a suspicious substance at Kari Lake’s campaign office in Phoenix forced an evacuation Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Fire Department said the hazardous materials situation occurred near 40th Street and Camelback Road after hearing that one of the building’s tenants had received an envelope containing the substance.

Phoenix police and firefighters cleared the building.

Hazardous materials crews from the Phoenix Fire Department investigated the substance.

However, authorities ultimately tested the substance and deemed it not dangerous, according to Phoenix Fire.

Phoenix Fire said that at 2:30 p.m., occupants would soon be allowed back into the office.

Kari Lake comments on suspicious substance and evacuation

Lake speculated on social media that the mystery substance could have been anthrax.

“Today my office received a suspicious envelope, potentially containing anthrax – an attempt to intimidate and silence me,” Lake said in a social media post Tuesday. “I would like to thank all first responders and the hazmat team for their quick and professional response.”

Phoenix Fire said there was no immediate threat to the community.

This is an ongoing investigation.

No injuries were reported.
