West Bengal: Dispute between 2 communities over loud music at New Bengal Sporting Club Durga Puja pandal – Kolkata News

The New Bengal Sporting Club, known for its extravagant and creative Durga Puja decorations in Kolkata, on Friday alleged that some men from the “Muslim community” disrupted the puja rituals and created a ruckus in their pandal.

The club, in a written complaint filed with the local police station, claimed that while they were performing Ashtami and Navami puja with music, young men from the Muslim community came to object, claiming that this disrupted their Namaz (Friday prayers). ).

The group of boys got into a verbal altercation with the puja committee members, the club said. Minutes later, senior community leaders and the police intervened to calm the situation and disperse the crowd, following which the puja resumed.

“Today at 1:13 p.m., almost 50-60 hooligans (a Muslim mob) came to our Puja pandal and disrupted the rituals and threatened to disrupt our Puja pandal and also said that they will break the idol by Maa Durga In the meantime, they pushed and used slang language against our female members and other members as well,” reads the club’s complaint.

The complainants also said that they also shot a video of the entire incident and handed it over to the Garden Reach police, requesting them to take note of the matter and take action immediately.

Following this complaint, the police registered a complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter.

The situation is under control, police said.
