Medway Police warn of phone scam impersonating officers

MEDWAY — Residents have been targeted by phone scammers posing as Medway Police Department officers, authorities warned Tuesday.

The scam involves callers claiming the resident has an outstanding warrant, then demanding payment to “clear the matter.” The Medway Police Department has issued a scam alert, emphasizing that these calls are fraudulent.

Officials stressed that police will never request payment over the phone or ask for gift cards, wire transfers or prepaid cards to resolve warrants.

These tactics are common among phone scammers who often use technology to spoof caller ID systems, making it appear as if the call is coming from the police department.

Medway Police are urging citizens to hang up immediately if they receive a suspicious call.

They also advise residents not to provide personal or financial information over the phone under any circumstances.

Anyone who is unsure of the legitimacy of such a call is encouraged to contact the Medway Police Department directly at 508-533-3212 to verify the authenticity of the request.
