According to YouTube channel ‘IIT Bombay Uncuts’, the dance was performed by students of Hostel 5 of IIT Bombay, considered the premier engineering and technology institution in the country.

The dance footage, shared on X, shows a student dressed in a crop top and skirt as they dance to Munni Badnaam. Other students also join in the dance, drawing cheers from the audience.

“Vulgar dance IIT Bombay, what is your opinion on this? asked one X user while sharing the video on the social media platform.

Take a look at the IIT Bombay dance below:

The video went viral with 1.2 million views and hundreds of comments from people questioning whether the performance was vulgar or not.

Critics

Critics of the dance show had many objections. “Cheap… doesn’t look like people are getting an education here,” said X user Pihu.

“My opinion on this is: I don’t blame them. From the Kapil Sharma Show, Bollywood films, IIFA awards and countless others, these kids have grown up seeing kinky dances like these on TV. The subversion has succeeded, it is anchored in them. Blame the parents and media,” another X user said.

“Before you question them, question Bollywood and the entertainment industry. Interview songwriters and interview social media influencers. One thing leads to another, like a chain reaction. What you are seeing is a symptom of a syndrome,” one person admitted.

“It’s a song that describes a woman as a product. If you don’t find this ‘inappropriate’ in an educational institution, then you are being brainwashed,” said Shawmava Mukherjee, an X user.

The supporters

However, many people found nothing wrong with dancing at IIT Bombay, noting that the students on stage had worked very hard to gain admission to the institute and now deserved a chance to enjoy life university.

“People who cannot pass through the gates of prestigious universities should refrain from moral policing of these deserving students,” said one X user.

“I don’t find anything vulgar,” said another. “If this is considered vulgarity then protest outside Mumbai film studios,” added a third.

“OP has no idea what is going on at IIT Bombay. It’s not even in the top 200,” one person said, referring to the accusation of vulgarity.
