RPDPS said at 12:16 p.m. they received multiple reports of a massive fire in the upstairs unit of an apartment complex in the 900 block of Kirsten Court in Rohnert Park.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw “large flames coming from the second floor apartment.” The fire destroyed one unit and quickly spread to neighboring apartments due to the building’s lack of firewalls, authorities said. Firefighters managed to contain the flames within an hour, authorities confirmed.

Although the cause of the fire has not been determined, investigators believe the fire started in the living room of an apartment.

Authorities said the building had been “declared uninhabitable” and the Red Cross had helped 30 displaced residents. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but his condition was not released.

The three-alarm fire reportedly cost $2 million in damage, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
