Jigra director Vasan Bala deletes Twitter account after film’s box office failure

Director Vasan Bala, whose last film Jigra failed to impress audiences at the box office, appears to have deleted his Twitter account (X). The filmmaker was sharing messages and responding to comments until a day earlier. However, his replies now appear as empty boxes with “This message is from an account that no longer exists” instead.

Vasan defended the Alia Bhatt starrer’s performance after several trolls targeted him for glorifying her. During his last interview with The Hollywood Reporterthe director also said that he does not consider box office as a parameter of a film’s success. However, his statement was not well received and many social media users called him “arrogant” for not acknowledging the public’s verdict.

A section of the audience also wondered how Vasan became the face of the film after its failure at the box office, while Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina were actively promoting it before the release.

The film clashed with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, at the box office. Although Raaj Shandilyaa’s direction also failed to show any winning traction at the wicket, she managed to do better than Jigra.

The film, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, collected Rs 25.35 crore nett in nine days in India. Jigra featured Alia in the role of a protective elder sister, who helps free her brother, played by Vedang, from a foreign prison. The film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, and it doesn’t seem possible that it will break even at the box office now.
