Death of Liam Payne: the body of the former member of One Direction will be delivered to the family once clinical tests are completed, according to a source

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — The body of British musician Liam Payne, who died Wednesday in Buenos Aires, will not be released to his family until authorities complete final clinical tests, a source told CNN on Saturday.

Authorities expect this to happen next week, but are not ruling out the possibility that results will be ready as early as this weekend.

Geoff Payne, father of the former One Direction singer, arrived in Buenos Aires on Friday. The source told CNN that authorities allowed Payne to view her son’s body at the morgue.

Payne also visited the hotel where his son had stayed. CNN previously reported that Payne wanted to visit his son’s room but was not allowed in due to the ongoing investigation. Instead, his father was able to see a similar room on another floor.

He also greeted fans outside the hotel, thanking them for their support and visiting the memorial filled with photos, letters, candles and flowers.

Liam Payne died on Wednesday after falling from the third floor of his hotel. The cause of his death was “polytrauma” with “internal and external hemorrhage,” according to the preliminary autopsy report, although toxicological examinations are still underway.

The former One Direction star’s fatal fall on Wednesday at the CasaSur Palermo hotel is still under investigation by authorities, who are studying the circumstances of his final moments.

The Argentine prosecutor’s office said Thursday that “everything indicates that the musician was alone at the time of the fall.” The prosecutor’s office also suspects Payne, who previously spoke openly about his struggle with addiction and mental health, was “experiencing some sort of substance abuse episode” at the time.

“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” read the group’s joint statement. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

Malik announced Saturday that he was postponing his “Stairway To The Sky” tour following Payne’s death.
