Temple unrest: Controversy over VIP access to Mahakaleshwar shrine

The Mahakaleshwar temple administration has removed an official amid controversy over the entry of Eknath Shinde MP’s son Shrikant Shinde into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Despite rules prohibiting such entry, Shrikant Shinde was allowed access, drawing criticism from the opposition Madhya Pradesh Congress. Consequently, the temple administrator, Ganesh Dhakad, announced the dismissal of Vinod Chouksey, responsible for organizing the visits, for alleged negligence.

Additionally, three security personnel have been issued show-cause notices and strict measures have been implemented to prevent similar incidents. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Mahakaleshwar temple is an important “jyotirlinga” site which attracts many devotees. Congress MP Mahesh Parmar criticized double standards allowing VIP access while regular devotees endure long waits.
