Suicide attempt carried out by unauthorized sanitation workers at the corporation office

Thiruvananthapuram: Dramatic scenes unfolded on Saturday morning after two sanitation workers protest against society garbage collection politicians threatened to commit suicide in front of the company’s offices. The workers, identified as Binoy, 27, from Pacha and Joy Joseph, 54, from Kachani, perched on a tree branch with a noose around their necks and a bottle of gasoline, were demanding action on their grievances regarding unauthorized waste collection.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. as the two men, who had been protesting for 16 days, intensified their protest. However, firefighters quickly intervened, calming the men and getting them down safely from the tree around 11:15 a.m.
They were protesting against the company’s decision to entrust the collection of non-biodegradable waste to Haritha Karma Sena workers, which they said was impacting their livelihoods. The company also seized vehicles used by protesters for waste collection and imposed sanctions on them.
They were not employed by the company and collected waste voluntarily. Museum police have filed a complaint in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway.
