Motorcyclist arrested for alleged trespassing and theft

Police on Friday arraigned a 42-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Tachin Agera, before a Makurdi Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing two motorcycles belonging to the Benue Motorcyclists Association, BEMOA.

Tachin, who lives at Number 1 Agera Street, New GRA, Katsina-Ala of Benue, was charged with criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, criminal force, intimidation and theft.

Police Prosecutor, Isaac Ogwuche, informed the court that the matter was reported to the Makurdi Police Headquarters, following a request by BEMOA Chairman, John Adue, on October 3.

Ogwuche said Adue’s petition, dated September 30 and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, indicated that the accused led over 100 people to his office, located opposite First Bank, Wurukum, and took away articles of value, including two motorcycles.

“The petitioner also alleged that the gang took away 30 BEMOA receipt booklets, worth N12,000 each, amounting to N360,000, as well as two red motorcycles worth N608,000 “, added the prosecutor.

He also said the accused was arrested for committing the crime during police investigation, adding that other suspects were still at large.

He said the offenses contravened sections 97, 349, 266, 398 and 288 of the Benue Penal Code, 2004.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The magistrate, Mrs JO Ayia, granted bail to the accused in the sum of 200,000 Naira and a surety in an equivalent amount and then adjourned the matter to November 11 for hearing.
