The proposed Health Protection Bill will be sent to the cabinet in the next week, Health and Family Welfare Advisor Nurjahan Begum said today (October 18).

“Despite the work started in 2014, the National Health Protection Law has not yet been completed. After taking office (as health advisor), I was only given eight days. I said “I don’t know about it, I need to know first, then I can act on it. We hope to send it to the cabinet by next week.”

The advisor made the remarks while addressing an event marking the 200th medical camp organized by Dreamers Consultation and Research and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement of Dhaka University today.

Speaking about the treatment of the injured during the recent student movement, she said: “We are doing our best to facilitate the treatment of the injured. In addition to doctors from the country, we brought in doctors from France and China. ophthalmologists of Nepal. They said the medical care provided by doctors here was adequate. Concerning certain patients, they will give their opinion after consulting experts in their respective countries.

Nurjahan also said that doctors from France, China and the United States were consulted for the treatment of those who lost their legs during the movement.

“We have sent one such person to Bangkok, whose medical expenses amount to around Tk 2 crore. There is another injured person under treatment at CMH. We are talking to the concerned authorities in Singapore about the its treatment.

“Another person named Khokon, who suffered serious facial injuries after being shot in the face, is being treated in the burns unit. We are speaking with Australian authorities who are concerned about his treatment,” she added .

The advisor also said that the government was trying to send a large number of these people abroad through various organizations. “In addition, we have discussed with Unicef ​​​​and the World Bank. They will also help us.”
