Curtis Blocker, of Lynbrook, killed in collision with vehicle on Cross Island Highway, police say

A Lynbrook man died after being struck by a car while assessing his own vehicle following a collision on the Cross Island Expressway in Bayside Tuesday, New York City police said.

At approximately 10:47 p.m., Curtis Blocker, 31, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Spark near Exit 30 along Alley Pond Park when she collided with a 2018 Jaguar, the New York Police Department said.

He then stopped and got out of the Chevrolet in the center lane of the highway. While he was assessing the damage, an oncoming 2023 Nissan Rogue struck him, police said.

Blocker was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene. Neither the driver of the Jaguar nor the Nissan was injured.

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.
