TMZ covered the news of former One Direction star Liam Payne’s death and published photos of his dead body in their article. Payne died Wednesday after falling from the third floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Police confirmed they discovered her body after responding to an emergency call from the hotel manager. The unfortunate news has since made headlines around the world, with several celebrities paying tribute to the beloved singer.

Meanwhile, Payne’s fans and loved ones criticized TMZ for its controversial coverage of his death and for allegedly posting since-deleted photos of the singer’s body from a hotel patio. On the popular British radio channel LBC, broadcaster Matt Charlton criticized the publication for carrying out “one of the most irresponsible acts of journalism I have ever seen.” He went on to say that “the photographer, the writer, the person who insisted on publishing this story should truly never work in the industry again.”

Singer Alessia Cara has condemned TMZ with a “you’re disgusting” message on her X account (formerly Twitter) for publishing photoshopped photos of Liam Payne’s deceased body. Cara had previously performed alongside Payne and Zedd. Other users quickly responded to his post calling on people to boycott the outlet and some called their action “disgusting” and “disrespectful”.

One user wrote: “TMZ publishing part of a photo of Liam Payne’s dead body in an article announcing his death is beyond deplorable. I can’t tell if I’m losing my mind lately or if society has always been blatantly morally decrepit. Meanwhile, many others have urged the paparazzi to leave the late singer’s ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, alone.

Payne was 31 and father of a son, Bear Gray Payne, with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
