Iowa man leads authorities in pursuit of stolen oil tanker

MISSOURI VALLEY, Iowa (WOWT) – A man aboard a stolen tanker led police on a lengthy chase in western Iowa early Thursday morning.

William Jordan, 44, was arrested and booked into custody on charges of reckless driving and theft.

Around 6:30 a.m., officers with the Missouri Valley Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a fuel truck without lights near 4th Street and Erie Street. The truck, driven by Jordan, fled eastbound on Highway 30 and a pursuit ensued.

Police said Jordan maneuvered the tanker truck through a residential neighborhood before stopping in a cornfield to turn around and eventually take Interstate 29 south toward Council Bluffs. Eventually, officers deployed stop sticks and Jordan was taken into custody without incident.

Throughout the chase, police say Jordan swerved into traffic, even driving a car off the road, but no injuries were reported during the entire incident.

Missouri Valley Police told 6 News the keys were in the tanker and the doors were unlocked when Jordan stole the vehicle and that he had no connection to the company the truck belongs to. truck.
