North Bay News: 55-year-old suspect charged with threatening victim and weapons offenses

A 55-year-old North Bay man has been charged with threatening to cause death or bodily harm in connection with an incident on October 15 in the city.

A 19-year-old was also charged with weapons offenses after police recovered a handgun and ammunition.

The case began Tuesday when North Bay police received a report of threats allegedly made by the 55-year-old suspect toward a victim.

“On October 16…members of the North Bay Police Service, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police Tactical Response Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence owned by the “accused,” North Bay police said in a news release Thursday.

“The searches carried out by the police led to the seizure of a handgun and the ammunition which accompanied it.”

Later that day, the 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

The 55-year-old was charged with the same offences, as well as making threats and breaching a release order.

The accused were detained pending their bail hearing at the North Bay courthouse.

“The North Bay Police Service would like to thank the Ontario Provincial Police for their continued partnership and support during incidents such as these,” police said.

“By working together, we help make our community safer.”
