Teenagers Illegally Arrested Carrying 3D Printed Weapon During Traffic Stop in Ann Abor

ANN ARBOR, MI – Two men have been charged with carrying a concealed weapon after police found a 3D printed firearm during a traffic stop in Ann Arbor.

Mohamed Kaba, 19, and Jahmal Khalid Oneil Jones, 18, were each arraigned on charges of carrying a concealed weapon Oct. 14 before 15th District Court Magistrate Tamara Garwood, according to court records.

Carrying a concealed weapon is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Police arrested Kaba and Jones on Saturday, Oct. 12, after a traffic stop revealed Kaba possessed the 3D-printed firearm, according to court documents and a news release from Ann Arbor police.

Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of North Maple Road, police said. They discovered the weapon, without a serial number, inside the vehicle. It was clear to the officer that the gun’s frame had been produced by 3D printing, said Ann Arbor police spokesman Chris Page. A ski mask was also found in the vehicle, Page said.

Police cited Jones for failure to display a valid license and improper filming, according to court records.

Neither man is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail.
