Akasa Air fined Rs 30 lakh by DGCA for several regulatory violations

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fined Akasa Air (operated by SNV Aviation Pvt. Ltd.) Rs 30 lakh for multiple regulatory violations.

The sanction follows a spot inspection on May 20, 2024, which found lapses related to pilot training and operational procedures, according to a copy of the order reviewed by ET.

Violations include conducting practical training for technical instructors and pilots without required ATRP approvals, exceeding authorized training hours, and appointing unqualified examiners for CAT II/III operations. Although it was given several chances to resolve these issues, Akasa Air’s responses were found to be unsatisfactory, the DGCA said.

Following a show cause notice issued on August 29, 2024, the DGCA found the airline’s explanations insufficient and imposed the sanction under Rule 162 of the Aeronautical Regulations, 1937.

Akasa Air responded by stating: “We acknowledge receipt of an order from the DGAC dated October 17, 2024. We are working closely with the regulator on this matter. For us at Akasa Air, safety is of the utmost importance and we are committed to pursuing the highest global safety standards.
