Family ‘in shock’ after two teenagers allegedly murdered by older brother

“We only have questions and sorrows. No answer or explanation. We are in shock,” the GoFundMe link read, as a Kitsap County family remembers two teenagers who were allegedly murdered by their older brother last week.

Scotty Bass, 17, and Sebastian Bass, 16, were found dead inside their Poulsbo home on October 9.

Deputies arrested Seth South, 23, near Lake Bonney the same day, following an hours-long manhunt from Poulsbo. Police say he killed his siblings with a knife.

A week later, Shyanne South said she still doesn’t understand why her big brother, Seth, would harm their two younger siblings.

“We are currently mourning three people. We mourn the loss of my younger siblings and we mourn the loss of my older brother, Seth,” Shyanne said.

She told KIRO 7 their family is completely devastated.

“I think it’s also something that my family and I probably struggle with, it’s like, my God, I hate this person, but I grew up with them and I love them and it’s my brother,” she said.

Shyanne said they all grew up together and loved each other. She said Seth loved his siblings.

“Until Wednesday, nothing was questioned about his love for us and it’s weird. The feelings don’t go away,” she said.

Scotty, Sebastian, Seth and their parents lived together in the Pouslbo house.

“They all had a very close relationship with Seth as well. Since he was home, he was constantly taking care of them, grooming them,” she added. “He definitely showered us with affection, our whole lives up until that point.”

Shyanne says the tragedy left her parents with no choice but to move.

“They’ve put their heart and soul into this house and it’s no longer a place where anyone feels comfortable,” she said.

She said her younger brothers had so many aspirations. Shyanne explained that Scotty was looking forward to graduating and hoped to become a park ranger. Scotty was excited to get his driver’s license and enjoy the rest of his high school education.

“They love their family so much and they love the life that they’ve built over the last 16 or 17 years,” Shyanne said.

Shyanne said she would miss being around them.

“Talking to them, or like, normal sibling behavior, like, Ew, you stink, or you know, like, random things, like, I can’t make these jokes, I can’t do stuff like that anymore , and I think that’s really what I’ll miss the most,” she said.

South faces two counts of second-degree murder as well as an assault charge for hitting the detective.

He will be back in court later this month.
