Jemima Khan Goldsmith, ex-wife of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has raised the alarm over his treatment in prison, citing “serious and worrying developments”.

Imran Khan has been detained since August 2023 on multiple charges, which his supporters say are politically motivated, Sky News reports.

In an article on X, Khan Goldsmith said that Pakistani authorities had stopped all visits from family and lawyers.

She also revealed that her estranged husband has been in complete isolation since September 10, with no telephone contact with their sons, who reside in London.

“He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned for his safety and well-being,” she said.

She also claimed that the prison cook had been placed on leave and that the electricity and lights in Khan’s cell had been turned off, preventing him from leaving his cell.

His comments came as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by Imran Khan, warned that his health would “deteriorate… and his life would clearly be in danger”.

Jemima Khan Goldsmith, a British journalist and screenwriter, revealed that she had brought Imran Khan’s case to the attention of British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, but was yet to receive a response.

She said: “This is not about politics, but about the father of my children, his human rights and international law. »

She also revealed that she had been the target of rape threats over Pakistani political issues, saying: “Over the past few years, I have been intimidated and harassed into silence by PML goons -N (Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, the ruling party), including threats of rape. and countless conspiracy theories.

She further called for the release of Imran Khan’s nephew and two sisters, who were also detained by Pakistani authorities.
