AAP, BJP clash over removal of NOCs to power connections in unauthorized colonies

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday clashed over the issue of scrapping ‘no objection certification’ (NOC) for power connections in unauthorized colonies. Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday announced the removal of the requirement of ‘no objection certificate’ (NOC) by the Delhi Development Authority for obtaining power connections in unauthorized colonies.

She further accused the BJP of making it difficult for residents of these colonies to access electricity. While the Delhi BJP hit back at the AAP government saying that the lieutenant governor had already removed the provisions of the NOC and alleged that the AAP government and its ministers were spreading lies to mislead the people .

The BJP further accused her of being a “credit choir”, saying she could go to the extent of taking credit for others’ work and mislead the public by lying.

Speaking about the decision, Atishi said, “I am happy to announce that the Delhi government has decided that no NOC will be required for installation of electricity meters in 1,731 unauthorized colonies. Anyone residing in these colonies can and will apply for an electricity meter. receive a connection within 15 days as stipulated by the DISCOMs.

She said the decision comes against a backdrop where she had received complaints about people being forced to roam and pay bribes due to the mandatory requirement of NOC by the BJP-ruled DDA. She said, “Even if the BJP DDA tries to trouble the residents of unauthorized colonies, all such attempts will be thwarted under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. »

“Residents from various areas like Swaroop Vihar Extension, West Kamal Vihar, Mohan Garden, Vipin Garden and Nawada Extension came to me as power minister and chief minister, sharing their grievances,” Atishi said, adding that no matter how much the BJP DDA tries to harass the residents of unauthorized colonies, the Delhi government will not allow them to suffer.

“Orders have been issued to power companies to ensure that no NOC is required to install meters in these colonies,” she said.

Meanwhile, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri accused Atishi of blatantly lying and said the DDA had already removed the condition of NOC for power connection in unauthorized colonies in Delhi. Bidhuri said the order issued by the DDA can only be withdrawn by the DDA. Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijendra Gupta termed Atishi’s announcement as the height of dishonesty. “Atishi is trying to take credit for the Lieutenant Governor’s announcement to remove the NOC requirement for new power connections in unauthorized colonies.

The Lieutenant Governor had already issued this order on October 1 and now, 15 days later, Atishi is falsely trying to take credit for the same decision, claiming that it benefits the public,” he claimed.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said Atishi had proven that his government and the AAP were “lying machines”. He claimed that neither the DDA nor the MCD had ever imposed the NOC condition. “Instead, the demand came from the ruling DISCOMs under the Kejriwal government. For years, the ruling DISCOMs have been demanding NOCs from the MCD for urbanized areas, and mid-last year, they started demanding NOCs from the DDA for unauthorized colonies and urban villages, worsening the problem “, said Sachdeva.

North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari alleged that Atishi lied shamelessly and termed his claims a complete fabrication aimed at misleading the public. “This decision was publicly recognized on October 6 in Burari, where residents expressed their gratitude through the ‘THANK YOU MODI JI’ program,” he said.
