Pedestrian fatally struck by authorities while walking along Monroe Co. Highway

The 57-year-old Monroe County man killed by a vehicle last week while walking along a highway has been identified by authorities.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Eric Schecter of Chestnuthill Township. An autopsy was performed Friday, but the cause and manner of death remain under investigation by Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac.

Pennsylvania State Police responded shortly before 4:30 a.m. Thursday to the stretch of Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. Schecter was found unconscious and lying in the road, Trooper Anthony Petroski III, Troop N public information officer, previously told lehighvalleylive.com.

Schecter was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 5:15 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities did not say whether the vehicle stopped after hitting the man or whether the driver was cooperating with police. Petroski could not immediately be reached for further information Wednesday morning.

The death remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop N Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, the Troop N Forensic Services Unit and the District Attorney’s Office. of Monroe County.
