8 people to appear before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court for alleged intimidation and intentional damage to property

Eight suspects aged between 21 and 39 are expected to appear in the Ermelo Magistrates Court today, October 16, following their arrest on Monday at Taaiboschspruit Farm, Sheepmoor.

The suspects were arrested after the farm owner filed charges of intimidation, malicious damage to property and coercion.

According to police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi, some members of the community around the farm had gathered and forced the farm owner to organize a joint meeting bringing together the two parties as well as the Ministry of Business. land.

“It is also alleged that in July, community members continuously damaged the farmer’s fence, burning trees on the farm and disrupting normal farming activities, which cost the farmer a lot of money.

“The farmer finally decided to report the matter to the police. Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of these eight suspects, hence their appearance in court. The police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges,” Nkosi said.

Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi stressed that violence is never the solution and urged citizens to follow the right paths and consult relevant stakeholders to resolve their concerns.
