Man, two children shot while driving in Birmingham community

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham police are investigating after a man and two children were shot Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred in the 1400 block of 3rd Avenue West.

West Precinct officers responded to the scene at 8:11 p.m. after a ShotSpotter alert recorded 20 shots fired.

Officers arrived on scene and found a man and two children suffering from gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services took them to Children’s Hospital where one is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The man was transported to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police believe the three victims, who are members of the family, were traveling on 3rd Avenue West in a vehicle when the suspect passed them and opened fire in the taxi.

Sergeant LaQuitta Wade said there were five people inside the vehicle. The other two occupants were unhurt.

No one is in custody at this time.
