Sydney Sweeney helped arrest a burglar in Los Angeles… while filming her Christy Martin biopic in North Carolina

Sydney Sweeney used her home technology to help stop a burglar in Los Angeles… while she was on the other side of the country.

The 27-year-old actress was in North Carolina filming her biopic about pioneering boxer Christy Martin when security cameras around her home alerted her to the presence of an intruder.

The burglar entered Sweeney’s property around 3:30 a.m. Monday, according to TMZ, although she didn’t stay on her lawn for long.

The suspect then entered Sweeney’s neighbor’s house and fled with a few items before fleeing.

Sweeney quickly alerted Los Angeles authorities after seeing the footage, allowing local authorities to quickly arrive and apprehend the suspect.

Sweeney becomes the latest high-profile burglary victim, with many celebrities’ homes targeted this year alone.

Tom Hanks, Jessie J, Sarah Hyland, Marlon Wayans and Corinna Kopf had their homes burglarized in 2024.

It’s unclear exactly which house the potential burglary took place in, as she owns two homes in the Los Angeles area.

She purchased her first home in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles for $3 million in November 2021, which had not been on the market for almost 50 years.

She also purchased a home in upscale Bel Air for $6.2 million in 2023.

Sweeney signed on to play Christy Martin in May, with David Michod (Animal Kingdom) directing from a script he co-wrote with Mirrah Foulkes.

Martin was the first high-profile female boxer to help spread the word about the women’s version of the sweet science.

She was the first female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated and the first female boxer to be signed by controversial promoter Don King.

She fought from 1989 to 2012 – under the nickname The Coal Miner’s Daughter – and accumulated a record of 49 wins, 7 losses and 3 draws.

Martin also survived a horrific murder attempt by her husband James V. Martin, where she was shot and stabbed multiple times.

James was convicted of second-degree murder in 2012 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, a sentence he is currently serving.
