Muslim organization challenges Sanjauli mosque demolition order

Shimla: Despite Sanjauli Mosque the committee’s commitment to demolish an unauthorized part of the contested mosque, the All Himachal Muslims Organization (AWHO) announced its intention to contest Shimla City Commissioner’s Court order dated Oct. 5 directing the demolition of the top three floors of the five-story structure.
The court of Municipal Commissioner Bhupender Kumar Attri had on October 5 ordered to demolish at its own cost the portion of the mosque built beyond the limits permitted by the Muslim Welfare Committee within two months. But, now, AHMO state spokesperson Nazakat Ali Hashmi announced after a meeting in Shimla on October 5. On Wednesday, those who pledged before the commissioner’s court to carry out the demolition of part of the mosque were neither authorized by the Wakf Board nor members of any organization.
Therefore, Hashmi said, the municipal court’s order, based on the commitment made by the Sanjauli Mosque committee, is contrary to the facts. “It was decided in the meeting that the entire Muslim community does not agree with the order of the commissioner court and we have decided that as soon as we receive the certified copy of the order, we will challenge it before the next appellate authority,” Hasmi said. He added that even if they do not get justice, they are ready to take the matter to the Supreme Court and will only accept the court’s judgment based on facts.

Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, which has been holding protests across the state demanding demolition of the mosque, on Thursday placed ‘Sanatan Sabzi Wala’ boards in front of various Hindu-owned shops in Sanjauli market with a call for boycott economy of Muslim sellers in the region.
