Freetown police arrest Assonet man on rape and other charges

FREETOWN (WBSM) — Freetown police have arrested an Assonet man for rape, assault and intimidation.

According to police, Brendan D. Nunes, 23, of Assonet, was arrested by the department on Friday, October 11 after an investigation by Massachusetts State Police Troop D detectives in conjunction with Freetown police detectives Shane Kelley and Christopher Medeiros.

Police said as a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Nunes.

Nunes allegedly committed several offenses, police said, including rape, drugging for sexual intercourse, strangulation/suffocation, intimidating a witness and three counts of battery.

He was arrested and taken to the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth, where he was held on $50,000 cash bail.

Nunes is expected to be arraigned today in Fall River District Court.

“Our officers, working closely with the Massachusetts State Police, demonstrated strong investigative work leading to this arrest,” said Freetown Police Chief Scott M. Pink. “This case reflects our commitment to thoroughly investigating serious crimes and holding offenders to account. »
