GP Deepak Puri pleads not guilty to sexual assault of patient in Leeton, New South Wales

A New South Wales doctor has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting one of his patients.

In January 2023, a woman aged in her 20s reported to police that she had allegedly been sexually assaulted during an appointment with GP Deepak Puri.

The incident is believed to have occurred in May 2020, in Leeton, in the south of the state.

Officers from Monaro Police District began investigating and arrested 42-year-old Deepak Puri last month.

Dr Puri was taken to Leeton police station and charged with serious sexual assault – victim under the authority of the offender, and was granted bail.

Today Dr Puri appeared at Leeton Local Court and pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Pauline Wright.

His conditional discharge will continue and he is due to appear before Leeton Local Court again on December 10.

As part of his bail conditions, Dr Puri cannot prescribe, consult, examine, treat or perform any procedure on a female person.
