Fatal hit-and-run crash in Milwaukee at 68th and Capitol; accused woman

A 54-year-old Milwaukee woman is accused of leaving the scene of a fatal collision at 68th and Capitol. The accused is Anna Lindsey – and she now faces a criminal charge of hit-and-run resulting in death.

According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee police responded to a collision at 68th Street and Capitol just after midnight on Saturday, October 5. When police arrived at the scene, they found a victim being treated by ambulance staff – and a damaged motorbike nearby. . The victim was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A witness at the scene spoke with police and said he and the victim were friends — and that they were riding their motorcycles westbound on Capitol Drive. The witness said he was about a block behind the victim when he saw the victim enter the intersection of 68th and Capitol. At that point, “an eastbound SUV attempted to turn left in front of the victim to head northbound. The victim struck the turning SUV and was ejected from his motorcycle,” the complaint states. . The witness told police the SUV drove northbound.

Officers spotted a trail of liquid coming from the crash site. They followed this trail which led them to an SUV parked near 40th and Stark. The complaint states that the “SUV suffered damage consistent with the collision at 68th Street and Capitol, including significant damage to the roof, hood and front passenger side quarter panel windshield. Pieces of the victim’s motorcycle were embedded in the body of the SUV.”

Detectives spoke with a person who said they recognized the SUV. He also provided a description of the woman that matched that of the defendant.

Police executed a search warrant on the SUV and found documents in the defendant’s name. Investigators also “recovered two prints from the driver’s side exterior door” that “were determined to match those of the defendant,” the complaint states.

The accused was arrested on Monday October 7. The complaint states that during an interview, she admitted to driving the SUV and being involved in the crash at 68th and Capitol. At first, “she said she stopped for a few seconds and didn’t see anything or anyone, so she left the scene because she was scared.” Later during the interview, the defendant “admitted to seeing the wrecked motorcycle,” the complaint states. The defendant added, “she did not call 911 or stop because she was afraid,” the complaint states.

Online court records show Lindsey was scheduled to make her first appearance in Milwaukee County Court on Thursday, October 10.
