Will Trump break records among these two electoral blocs? Polls show it is possible.

Former President Donald Trump could be on track to win a “historic” share of Black and Hispanic voters in November against Vice President Kamala Harris.

CNN’s Harry Enten discussed the recent weekend polls and broke down the numbers:

“The bottom line is this: at this precise time, if the poll is to be believed, Donald Trump is going to achieve the best performance among voters since Richard Nixon in 1960 – not 1968 – since 1960, that is- i.e. 64 years ago. Among Hispanic voters, Donald Trump will achieve the best Republican performance since 2004.”

Black Americans strongly supported Joe Biden when he defeated Trump in 2020. Harris advisers say they are less concerned about losing a significant percentage of black men’s support to the former president than about the fact that some will choose not to participate at all.

Trump has also stepped up his efforts to win over Black and Hispanic voters of both sexes. He has held roundtable discussions with black entrepreneurs in swing states and will participate in a town hall this week sponsored by Spanish-language Univision. He has also sought to openly stoke racial divisions, repeatedly suggesting that immigrants who cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally are taking the jobs of Black and Hispanic Americans.

According to Pew Research Center data cited in a New York Times/Siena College poll, Hillary Clinton won about 92% of black voters, while Biden won about 90%. The poll showed Harris still winning demographically, but with only about 78 percent.

The same poll released Sunday showed Harris winning Hispanic voters by about 56%, compared to Trump’s 37%. Biden won the same demographic with about 62%.

A recent poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that about 7 in 10 black voters had a favorable opinion of Harris and preferred her leadership to that of Trump on major policy issues, including the economy , health care, abortion, immigration and the war between Israel and Hamas. There was little difference in support for Harris between black men and black women.
